Lineage

jigoro kano

Kano was born in Japan and was the original founder and innovator of Judo.

He was known as an educator and a visionary who started the art of jiu-jitsu to develop his strength. Kano was a diminutive man who was only 5ft 2in tall and only weighed 41kg, his idea was to develop a fighting system which didn’t rely on strength as the main attacking principle, he reasoned that by using the energy of your opponent then this method would be a more efficient way of fighting which especially had benefits for the smaller fighter against larger stronger assailants.

Kano added his own creative ideas to jiu-jitsu which were fused with combat knowledge that was handed down to him by the blood and sweat of the ancient Japanese Samurai warriors.
